How to Configure Custom Actions in OnBase Unity Forms

How to Configure Custom Actions in OnBase Unity Forms

1. To configure custom actions within the Unity Form Designer, first select the “custom actions” button on the top of your screen. Once you select that, you will see the custom actions pane appear on the right side of our Unity Form Designer.

2. Any preconfigured custom actions for this Unity Form will appear in a list in this pane.

3. To create a new custom action, at the very bottom of the page, you will select a new button, and a new window will appear in the middle of your Unity Form.

4. After naming and describing your custom action, you will move on to the conditions pain within the custom action configuration. To add a new condition, select the “add” button and you will be greeted with a list of all of the possible conditions the OnBase Unity Forms Designer allows.

5. After scrolling through the list select the one that best represents what you are trying to accomplish with your custom action, and hit “okay.” Once you hit “okay,” the action that you have chosen will appear in your conditions pane. As you can see, it is highlighted in red. Because it is highlighted in red, you will know that there is no field specified for this condition. To specify a field, click on the field. Once you do that, a new window will appear for you to select any of the possible fields within your Unity form to complete the condition.

6. Once you’ve selected a field, you now need to decide if the condition itself is going to do what you want. You want it to look to make sure that my first name is not empty. So, after clicking once on the end of the condition, you can change it from empty to not empty. Now that your conditions are complete we can move on to the actions pay within the custom actions configuration.

7. Similar to the conditions pane, in order to add a new action, you can come over and select “add” and you are greeted with a different list of action types in order to complete your configuration. After scrolling the list and selecting the action you believe is going to work best for you, we are going to choose “make field required custom action” and hit “okay.” You now have a new action within your actions pane.

8. Similar to the conditions, it is highlighted in red because you have not specified a field. In order to specify a field, you will select the field and be given a new drop-down of all of the possible fields that can complete this action. You’re going to choose “last name” and hit “okay.” You now no longer see red, so there are no errors within our custom action configuration. So, you’re going to go ahead and hit “okay.” Once you hit “okay,” your custom action is configured and you can confirm that by it showing up in your custom actions pane on the right.

9. Now that you have it configured, let’s test it. In order to test your custom action, you want to come back up to the top ribbon and choose “test drive.” Once you choose test drive, a test version of your Unity form will appear for you to test your new custom action. To do that, you’re going to populate your first name, which was the condition you set within your custom action configuration and hit “tab.”

10. Once you hit “tab,” you can see that our last name pane is highlighted in red with a little asterisk and on top of the pane, you can see it says last name this field is required, which is what you determined in the actions pane of your custom action configuration.
