Want to learn how to convert an EOB to an EDI 835 format in ABBYY Vantage? This blog will show you how to get there using our EDI Connector, which makes this conversion very simple. To get a visual idea of what a PDF file to 835 converter looks like, follow along with the 2-minute video below.
How to Convert an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to an EDI 835 Format
But first, a refresher on what ABBYY Vantage is from a high level: Vantage uses AI-based technology to process documents of all types. It does this using premade skills from the ABBYY Online Marketplace that captures data, extracts data, and processes data that lives in your business documents. This way, you can execute a wide variety of processes faster and with incredible accuracy. It’s especially known for its user-friendliness that makes it relatively easy to learn and its versatility, given the expansive offerings of the ABBYY Online Marketplace. Now, onto how to convert an EOB to an EDI 835 format.
How to Convert an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to an EDI 835 Format
1. Set Up Your Process
As you can see here in the video demo, we started with a very typical process within Vantage: Input -> Extract -> Generate EDI -> Output.
Here’s what that breaks down into:
Input: A document (which is an EOB in this case) will come into the process as our “Input.”
Extract: We will “Extract” the critical information off of that EOB document.
Generate EDI: We will generate an 835 format to represent the data that we’ve extracted from that document.
Output: Your document is now in an 835 format and ready to go.
2. Drop Your Sample EOB Document into Try Any Skill
Next, we look at an EOB example. The EOB document typically has header information with claim information or the transactional details below it. So what we’re going to do is put this information into ABBYY Vantage and then what we expect on the output, as we saw in step 1, is the 835 formatted file.
To do this, we went to our Try Any Skill site and dropped our sample EOB document in. To select the process skill, click “Select Skill” and start typing in “835” and select the EDI 835 Connector option.
3. Check Your Work
Now that your document has been processed, it’s time to check if the output file was able to convert properly. To do this, we opened our output, as seen here, and it showed us an example of the EDI output for that specific EOB file. As expected, it has the different segments outlined in the EDI format, and we can now use that EDI information to populate our backend systems or pass through our downstream step of the automation process.
And that’s how you convert an EOB to an EDI 835.
