Do you have to be OnBase Certified? Not necessarily, but you really want to be.

When I was new to OnBase, System Administration certification provided a solid foundation for how to use and support the software. The week-long course taught me how to find what I needed so I could continue my training at my own pace and build upon what I’d learned. Over time, it dramatically reduced the amount of time spent doing research and asking others for help. More importantly, it opened my eyes to possibilities. OnBase is an incredibly flexible piece of modular software and half the battle is just having an awareness of the tools at hand. I can’t tell you how many organizations underutilize OnBase simply because they don’t know what it can do.

There are certifications dedicated just to Workflow and WorkView, two of my favorite modules. Why? Because they are powerful ways to increase efficiency and nothing makes an admin happier than automation or thrills management more than streamlined processes.

Already certified two years ago? Recertification is valuable, too. I like to think of it as an investment in continuing education. In my support role, I work with multiple versions of the software, sometimes daily, so my general skills in OnBase stay pretty sharp. Still, even after eight years, I learn something new every time I get recertified. For me, it’s a tool I use to help me get a jump on changes in the latest versions of the software and a way to connect with Hyland and ask them my latest burning questions about some esoteric setting I stumbled onto.

For the very advanced folks, the one certification you truly need is API. Hyland requires that certification for access to API specific documentation, resources, and support. For those projects that can’t be accomplished any other way, it’s absolutely worth it.

The short answer? Gaining a strong core with OnBase certification allows you to build a robust system that can benefit your entire organization.

And if you’re within travel distance to Madison, consider getting certified at the Naviant office. It might save you some money and we’d love to see you!
